RESIDENCIES
PICA's Residency Program is designed to provide artists in all disciplines with dedicated time, materials and appropriate working space during a development stage in making a new project. PICA's curatorial staff award up to 6 residencies per year. Each artist works closely with the curators to determine the parameters and needs of the residency in advance of their arrival in Portland. These parameters focus primarily on the needs of the project, but are also about how to best connect them to the local community in order to foster dynamic interaction and expose them to the resources and talents specific to the Northwest. Residencies are often the beginning of a long-term relationship with PICA and Portland, eventually resulting in an exhibition or co-commission of a new production upon completion.
PICA's commitment to exhibiting, producing or presenting artists is fundamental to our mission, and as such we have several curators on staff. We learn about artists through research, travel, recommendations from our colleagues and other artists, and through materials that artists send to us directly. There is no formal application process, but if you would like to send your materials for our curators to review in consideration for an exhibition, performance, residency, or special project, please submit the following:
* A representative sample of your work (slides, VHS tape in NTSC format, CD or cassettes, CDROM, or other relevant documentation) * Biographic materials, resum and press clippings * A description of your work, both past and current * Invitations to your upcoming shows (we do travel extensively, and although it is rare that one of us can make a special trip, it is good to keep us abreast of your activities) * A self-addressed stamped envelope for the return of your materials
Note: We cannot ensure the safe return of all of these materials, and do prefer to receive documentation digitally if at all possible. We do not accept unsolicited, original artwork.
Send your materials to: Erin Boberg, Assistant Curator of Performing Arts 224 NW 13th Avenue #305 Portland, OR 97209
