LMCC Swing Space
Dear Artist:
I'd like to invite you to apply- or to encourage friends to apply- for Swing Space, a program at Lower Manhattan Cultural Council that provides short-term, rent-free space to create, rehearse, and present work. In partnership with area landlords, we're making vacant space downtown available to artists, curators, and cultural organizations on a temporary basis. Swing Space artists and art groups are also eligible to apply for stipends ranging from $300 to $3,000 to support project costs.
Proposals are accepted twice a year through an open call and reviewed by a panel of artists, arts professionals, and LMCC staff. We received hundreds of applications in response to our first open call last April, and we currently have artists like George Kimmerling and Sheryl Oring working in spaces ranging from a vacant Champs Sporting Goods store at the South Street Seaport Mall to a storefront at 45 John Street.
I also want to let you know about 15 Nassau, our new temporary programming space located in a beautiful former bank in the Financial District. Artists and arts groups can apply to exhibit window installations or to present readings, screenings, informal performances, concerts... lot of things. Just as with Swing Space, small stipends are available to support anything that happens at 15 Nassau. The Swing Space and 15 Nassau guidelines and applications will be available online at www.lmcc.net on July 6, 2005, and the deadline is August 2, 2005.
If you have any questions at all, don't hesitate to contact Steffani Jemison, Associate Director of Programs, at sjemison@lmcc.net or (212) 219-9401 x106.
Please spread the word.
Best, Tom
